Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina – one of only six Food Banks in the Metrolina area serving 19 counties in North and South Carolina. In FY2007-2008, Second Harvest Food Bank distributed over 25 million pounds of food and essential grocery items to over 600 agencies. Agencies include emergency pantries, soup kitchens, senior programs, shelters and low-income daycares.

- 66% of households served have incomes below the federal poverty level.
- 47% report having to choose between paying for food or paying for
utilities or heating fuel.
- 51% report having to choose between paying for food or paying for rent or mortgage.
- 39% report choosing between paying for food or paying for medicine or
medical care.
- 34% of households report having at least one household member in poor health.
- 25% of the members of households served are children - over 100,000
children assisted annually.
- 9% of the people served are elderly.
- 12% of the people served are homeless.
