What is a Mobile Pantry?
Second Harvest Food Bank uses a special truck to deliver at least 5,000 pounds of grocery product to any of our over 600 partner agencies. For two hours partner agency volunteers and staff distribute groceries directly from the truck to the people who need it most.Advantages:
Efficient distribution to as many as 300 households in 2 hours
Partner agencies keep all leftovers
What does an Agency have to do?
Partner agencies must provide:
Location for the truck to park
10 volunteers
6 long tables
Plastic grocery bags
Pre-screened recipients. They will need between 150 and 200 people to take all the food.
What does the Food Bank do?
Food Bank Staff will:
Offer tips on hosting a successful mobile pantry before Distribution Day.
Deliver between 5,000 and 10,000 pounds of food.
Send a Food Bank staff member to assist in planning the flow of distribution.
How Can You Help?
Make a financial donation to: SHFBM to help cover the cost of the Mobile Pantry.
Volunteer to help prepare and load food for Mobile Pantry deliveries.
