Junior Chefs is a youth leadership development program that brings together Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina staff, partner agencies, nutrition experts, culinary professionals and other community resources to offer young would-be cooks hands-on experience. As they prepare for the Cook-Off Competition held annually at Johnson and Wales University, participants receive culinary and nutrition training in a mentoring environment, working side by side with professional chefs to learn kitchen, knife and food preparation techniques.
The young cooks also take part in a series of exercises designed to teach interviewing skills, work ethics, goal setting and teamwork conducted by Johnson and Wales Human Resources Department.
